Langtang Gosainkund Chisopani Trek

Langtang, Gosainkund and Helambu Trek. It goes from the Holy Gosainkunda to the rich valley of helambu via the Langtang, at the border with Tibet. Lying at about 4,380meters, glacial Gosain kund (kund means Lake) is an important pilgrimage center. Every year, during the monsoon, a festival takes place on full moon night attracting thousand of Hindus, both Nepalese and Indian, who come here to worship Shiva? According to legend, the water of the lake was created when Shiva flung his trident onto the rocks. Then, this usually quiet place, with only a few lodges, is transformed into a hive of activity. Festivities take place everywhere and food and accommodation can be very expensive.
The narrow, high valley of langtang, tucked in between Langtang Lirung (7,234m) to the north and a range of lower mountains (6,000m) to the south, attracts fewer pilgrims and trekkers. It is sparsely populated and access is difficult. Nevertheless, the region offers surprising contrasts. Up to 3,000 meters, the progression occurs along the Langtang khola which runs through a narrow gorge. Among the valley grow up several bamboos jungle and forests. After Langtang village, where the National park headquarters are located, the valley becomes wider and forests become alpine grasslands. Kyanjin Gyang or kyanjin Gompa (3,950m), the last inhabited hamlet, serves as a summer pasture for Yak herds. This is the closest you can get to the glacial area of the High Himalaya which from the border with Chinese Tibet.
The helambu lying 70 kilometers to the northeast of Kathmandu, Helambu, sometimes called Helmu, is celebrated for its picturesque villages, magnificent views and mild weather. The region is prosperous and hospitable and is mainly populated with Sherpa’s, distantly connected to the ethnic Sherpa’s found in the eastern region of Khumbu, around Everest. The valley drained by the Melamchi khola, lies at a mid-range altitude and there are daily connections between the capital and the villages of Sundarijal and Panchkhal. For these reasons, Helambu is a popular trek, especially among amateurs and trekkers in a hurry. Indeed trekking to Gosainkund, Langtang and Helambu is considered fairly simple, but only if they are undertaken separately. Combining all three places makes for a difficult and specialized trek. The crossing the Ganja La, (5,106m) specifically requires the services of a special mountaineer Guide.
